Bottom Elliston, Manchester

             The facility lies in Southern Manchester, in the community of Bottom Elliston. The facility

             is in close proximity to Spur Tree Hill and French Park.

      The Bottom Elliston rainwater catchment and tank was surrounded by an old chain link fence that was in a state of disrepair. The facility’s gate, that was used to prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the facility, was also in need of repair. The broken fencing and broken gate allowed the water in the catchment area to be contaminated by animals and animal excrements and rendered the water unsafe for human consumption. In addition to these, the storage tank was leaking, which lessened the supply of water available to the community of Bottom Elliston. As a result of all these damages, the Government of Jamaica made the decision to make the necessary repairs to the facility. The repairs allowed the residents of Bottom Elliston to receive a reliable source of potable (drinkable) water.

      The Manchester Parish Council is responsible for operating and maintaining the catchment facility.

      The project was completed at a cost of $1.578 million.
